I am Adda Uwais, the founder of EatSlim lifestyle and a Keto Diet Guru. Professionally, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, an alumnus of UiTM, and later pursued studies in the field of Malaysia-Netherlands network business (Unigeorgia, Netherlands). At the same time, I have a strong interest and practice in healthy eating. I love eating, taking pictures of food, and trying new diet recipes. I firmly believe that a low-carbohydrate diet and regular exercise can overcome obesity in Malaysia and the world, InshaAllah. The correct formula for losing weight is to care for your diet 80% and exercise 20%.
I changed my diet when I underwent surgery to remove one thyroid in 2010, and the doctor confirmed that my thyroid had cancer. The doctor referred me to an oncology specialist and advised me to continue with further examinations, namely chemotherapy, and provided all kinds of hormone medications. Allahu Akbar, only Allah knows how I felt at that time. I followed my heart’s instinct, discarded all the medicines, and no longer saw that doctor. As a result of the thyroid removal, my metabolism rate was very low, and I began to feel my weight increasing until it reached 80kg, I felt easily tired, had back pain, knee pain, and an increase in body fat. Worst of all, I felt very low in confidence and felt bad about myself.
There was a moment when an unknown man asked me, ‘How many months pregnant are you, ma’am?’… My face felt hot as if slapped at that moment… I wasn’t pregnant, but my stomach looked like I was 5 months pregnant. That was the turning point for me to start taking action and begin to watch my diet. I gathered all my strength and was determined to find a way to change my eating habits to a healthy one instead of relying on medication. ‘We are what we eat.’ I realized that I couldn’t lose weight if I didn’t change my eating habits. From there, I started researching different diets and meal plans that might work with my body.
At first, I was afraid to try because I heard people saying that a low-carbohydrate diet was not good and could be harmful. But after doing my own research and trying out low-carbohydrate foods, it became clear that their perceptions were wrong.
A low-carbohydrate diet is not just a diet, but it is a lifestyle that offers us the benefits of becoming healthier. Counting calories is no longer a burden, and then my energy returned to normal, and I did not need to exercise more than three times a week. What’s important is that I feel changes in my body and become healthier and stay active.
By following a low-carbohydrate diet plan, I was able to reduce my weight from 80kg to 55kg in 3 months and also helped me maintain a healthy weight by eating real food. In fact, I also created various low-carbohydrate diet recipes. The challenge with this low-carbohydrate diet is the very limited food options and not having many choices. With the guidance of this book, you will learn and understand that a low-carbohydrate diet is not as difficult as it seems. The low-carbohydrate diet has changed my lifestyle.
